清代的皇帝打猎据说最初的目的是为了练兵。每年都会到离北京不远的地方大规模地围猎。

一个有趣的细节是(当然不是练兵的目的，打猎时要带上猎犬、老鹰和小鹰、还有羊。他们先是将老鹰的眼部遮上，放到天空中，然后，再放飞小鹰将老鹰的眼罩揭掉。这时的老鹰在空中找到猎物会迅速地俯冲。地面上的猎犬便立即随着老鹰的俯冲方向追赶猎物。被俘虏的猎物最后由羊托运回来。

围猎的人骑在马上，手臂上是鹰，马的左方是猎犬，右侧是羊。那场面一定挺好看、挺壮观。
